In vivo assessment of dog subcutaneous fat depots by real time ultrasonography and image analysis

چکیده
Introduction Obesity is the most common nutritional disorder in dogs and a main health and welfare concern worldwide; it links to a shortened lifespan and increased rate of secondary diseases. Surveillance of dog adiposity is a routine practice and is often estimated from body condition scoring (BCS). But BCS is subjective and fairly sensitive, reducing its utility during weight-loss plans. Substitute approaches, simple, cheap and reproducible, are foreseen.

In vivo assessment of subcutaneous fat in dogs by real-time ultrasonography and image analysis
BACKGROUND Systems for estimating body condition score (BCS) are currently used in canine practice to monitor fatness levels. These tools are cheap and easy to use but lack the necessary precision to monitor small changes in body fat, particularly during weight control treatments or in research. The present work aims to study the application of real-time ultrasonography (RTU) together with imag...

Introduction Obesity in dogs is a growing concern. Different surveys report a recent increase in dog obesity, their estimates ranging from 22 to over 50%. Surveillance of dog body condition score (BCS) is a routine practice but it is not sensitive enough. Ultrasound (US) assessment of body fat deposits was previously used in different species to predict adiposity, and shows several advantages, ...
متن کاملIdentification of Depot-Specific Human Fat Cell Progenitors through Distinct Expression Profiles and Developmental Gene Patterns Running title: Preadipocytes from Different Depots Are Distinct
Anatomically separate fat depots differ in size, function, and contribution to pathological states such as the metabolic syndrome. We isolated preadipocytes from different human fat depots to determine if the basis for this variation is partly attributable to differences in inherent properties of fat cell progenitors. We found that genome-wide expression profiles of primary preadipocytes cultur...
متن کاملAssessment of goat fat depots using ultrasound technology and multiple multivariate prediction models.
Assessment of fat depots for several goat body parts is an expensive and time-consuming task requiring a trained technician. Therefore, the establishment of models to predict fat depots based on data requiring simpler and easier procedures, such as ultrasound measurements, that could be carried out in vivo, would be a major advantage. An interesting alternative to the use of multiple linear reg...
